The win of 12 YEARS A SLAVE based on an 1853 book by Solomon Northup won as we all know the Academy Award for Best Picture of Year Sunday evening. The win is a testament to how far a book based on a film with a Black hero has come from the era of the late 40s and 50s when you would never have seen what you saw last night at the AAs. What a blessed thing to see…how a book like this can do great things beyond its pages to become the genesis of a slice of contemporary cinematic art that has entertained, showed so much to so many millions already.
